This old house in the center of Sissach was a toll house for the bridge some centuries ago.

This small building of the 17th century in the center of Sissach is located at the bridge over Diemtgenbach. It was used as a toll house for this bridge, its counterpart at the other bank also still exists.
After some years it was converted into a prison. In could not find any documentation about the exact dates.
Later the building was used for many other purposes and was abandoned for a while. A few years ago the building was converted into a museum of punishment and torture, the only of its kind in Switzerland.
