À l'extrémité ouest de la Place des Etats-Unis se dresse une statue de bronze de George Washington et le marquis de Lafayette, serrant les uns des autres de droite. Ils sont vêtus de leurs uniformes militaires. Dans la main gauche, Washington tient une épée vers le bas à côté de lui, tandis que Lafayette détient les drapeaux de chaque nation sur des poteaux, qui sert de cadre. At the west end of Place des Etats-Unis stands a bronze statue of George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette, clasping each others right hand. They are clothed in their respective military uniforms. In their left hands, Washington holds a sword down at his side, while Lafayette holds the flags of each nation on poles, which serves as a backdrop. The figures of the statue are almost double life size.

The sculptor, Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, is the venerable designer of France’s colossal gift to the United States, which stands iconically in New York harbor, the Statue of Liberty. The artist depicted General Lafayette as the emissary of good news to General Washington: France was sending military aid to his Patriots against the British in the American Revolution.

Lafayette and Washington stand atop a large white marble plinth, with multiple layers; the first two are like large steps that completely surround the monument. Along the top of the plinth is a leaf pattern frieze art. Written on two sides of the plinth, in French, is the following:
