Basler Börse is the former stock exchange of Basel. It is located at Aeschenplatz in a business quarter east of the historic city center. I could not find any information about the history of the building, it is a large four-story stone building with many ornaments and a ridge turret.
The company that run this exchange was founded in 1866, they were originally located near the town hall in the city center; this place also still exists and is called the Old Exchange, but sometimes it is not clear which of the two locations is referred to by this name. They must have moved to the new location in the mid-20th century. In 1993 the exchanges of Basel, Geneva and Zürich merged to create the "Swiss Exchange". In 1998 the activities were concentrated in Zürich and the Basel location closed.
Today the building is the headquarter of the newspaper "Basler Zeitung"; they moved here in 2001. The upper floors host a telemedical company and the headquarter of the Swiss Bankers Association. The ground floor used to be a Starbucks for some years until the gourmet fast-food chain Hitzberger took over the place in 2011.
