Yad Vashem is Israel's official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It is a 45-acre campus comprising indoor museums, outdoor monuments, memorials, gardens, sculptures and world-class research and educational centres.

There are Holocaust memorials and museum all over the world, some of them extremely moving, but none could ever be as poignant as Yad Vashem, Israel’s national Holocaust memorial. Yad Vashem was opened in 1957, nine years after the establishment of the State of Israel and less than 15 years after the Holocaust, with the purpose of commemorating and researching the single largest act of genocide in human history.
The Children's Memorial is probably the most disturbing part of the Yad Vashem Memorial. Dedicated to the 1.5 millions children who died in the Holocaust, this memorial consists of candles being reflected by mirrors in an otherwise dark space. The names, the nationality and the age of the kids killed during the holocaust are read out continuously by recorded voices.
Yad Vashem is the second most-visited tourist site in Israel, after the Western Wall. It receives some one million visitors annually. It is a must for any visit to Jerusalem.
