Eine Dreschmaschine, auch Dreschkasten genannt, ist ein landwirtschaftliches Gerät zum Dreschen von Körnerfrüchten, insbesondere von Getreide. Dreschmaschinen sind heute im professionellen Bereich nicht mehr im Einsatz, sie wurden in Deutschland in den 1950er bis 1960er Jahren durch Mähdrescher verdrängt. Es gab stationäre und fahrbare Dreschmaschinen. Angetrieben wurden die Dreschmaschinen zunächst über Pferdegöpel oder Dampfmaschinen, später meist durch Elektromotoren, stationäre Verbrennungsmotoren oder Traktoren. Es gab aber auch kleine Dreschmaschinen für den Handbetrieb.

The thrashing machine, or, in modern spelling, threshing machine (or simply thresher), was a machine first invented by Scottish mechanical engineer Andrew Meikle for use in agriculture. It was invented (c.1784) for the separation of grain from stalks and husks. For thousands of years, grain was separated by hand with flails, and was very laborious and time consuming, taking about one-quarter of agricultural labor by the 18th century. Mechanization of this process took much of the drudgery out of farm labour.
