Text from the plate by the entrance of the park:
"This garden was built in the final half of the 19th Century on the ancient cemetery surrounding the Main Church. Its western boundary is based on the old town hall.
In 1883 a one meter high surrounding wall was built, with a gate, to enclose this space to be used as a garden. Some of the existing houses were expropriated to straighten out the space and in 1890 trees were planted in the garden. In 1948 it was decided that the garden in "Largo dos Batalhão Sapadores dos Caminhos de Ferro" would be called "Jardim dos Amuados" ("Amuados" Garden), on accounts of this popular name".
