Städtischer Mittelpunkt ist die Entschlafung der Gottesmutter-Kathedrale (oft auch Muttergottes-Kathedrale genannt) aus dem Jahre 1896. Unweit von ihr befindet sich der Sitz der Diözese von Warna und Weliki Preslaw der Bulgarisch-Orthodoxen Kirche. Die "Sveto Uspenie Bogorodichno" Kathedrale ist einer der imposantesten Kirchen Bulgariens. Sie wurde 1896 errichtet und ihre Architketur ähnelt der Achitektur der Tempel in Petersburg. Ein Lieblingstreffpunkt und auch ein Ausgangspunkt für viele Touristen, wird sie heute als ein Talisman der Stadt wahrgenommen. Eine
interessante Tatsache ist, dass die erste Spende für ihren Aufbau von dem bulgarischen Fürsten Alexander Battenberg gemacht wurde.Einer der grössten Werte der Kathedrale sind die Fresken. Die Dekoration des Patriarchenthrons und der Ikonenwand ist ein echtes Meisterwerk der Holzschnitzerei im Stil der bekannten bulgarischen Kunstschule aus Debyr. Der Ikonenwand ist von dem Meister Ivan Filipov aus Debyr ausgearbeitet, und die meisten der Ikonen wurden von dem russischen Zaren Nikolai der Zweite gespendet. Die Kathedrale symbolisiert den Glauben und prägt die Gestalt der Meershauptstadt Bulgariens Varna. Die Kathedrale ist zum Ehren und zur Verherrlichung das Gedenken der russischen Soldaten und alle für die Freiheit Bulgariens ums Leben gekommenen während dem Russisch-Türkischen Krieg (1877 - 1878 ).
