The statue is 95 feet in height, standing on a 38 foot high pedestal and is faced in granite blocks, weighing 7000 tons. The total 133 feet of its height refer to the 133 chapters in the Thirukkural, authored by the Hindu Saint Tiruvalluvar. The imposing figure stands 400 metres from the mainland and can be reached by a ferry. It's then possible to climb up to the top of the pedestal.
