A benchmark located on the shorter of Flagstaff Hill's two summits in the Flagstaff Hill Historic Reserve. It is located on the ground within the mosaic of the sundial.
The benchmark reads "NZ INSTITUTE OF SURVEYORS CENTENARY 1988". There is also an interesting plaque on the sundial that recognizes the centennial of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors.
The site affords beautiful, almost 360 degree views, of the Bay of Islands and Pacific Ocean.
Flagstaff Hill has a lot of significance in New Zealand's history. See the nearby NZ Designated Historic Places waymark for more details.
