Shatti Al Qurum Beach - Muscat, Oman - Beaches on Waymarking.com

Shatti Al Qurum Beach -- sometimes simply referred to as "Shatti Beach" so as to not confuse it with another stretch of beach called "Qurum Beach" much further East -- is located at the heart of Muscat's beachfront tourist zone. It is mainly for strolling on the beachfront and swimming in the beautiful Gulf of Oman but is perfectly suited for local and out-of-town visitors alike: it offers a number of picnic areas, palm shades, and retail food/drink amenities nearby.

Locals claim that when the tide is low, one can take a 2km walk going East starting at the Jawharat Al Shatti Plaza shopping strip (a good parking spot and public entrance to the beach, just 50m Southwest of the posted coordinates) all the way to Qurum beach located near the Crowne Plaza hotel. In reality however, one can probably only go half that distance -- and one has to first go around a building right at the beach itself in order to reach that particular section of the Shatti Al Qurum beach located in front of the InterContinental hotel (which is private terrain and does not offer "pass-through" access to that side of the public beach unless you're a guest of the hotel).

The beach is really two separate stretches divided right at the Jawharat Al Shatti Plaza shopping strip. Going West, one can take a 2km stroll all the way to the Embassies zone and the Grand Hyatt hotel -- with only a minor obstacle about halfway down, although easily passable during normal tide conditions. At several intervals along the way, either a grove of date palms or fine grass has been laid between a paved boardwalk and the beach resulting in a great place to chill out under a shade tree or on the lawn during the long stroll.
