For 25 years, this boat pushed barges up and down the Ohio River. In 1962, it was moved to West Virginia where it was converted to a showboat. In 1966, it was purchased at a public bid for $21,165 by the City of Clinton, Iowa. It was then towed 1600 miles from Morgantown, WV, down the Monongahela River to Pittsburg, on the Ohio River to Cairo, IL, and then up the Mississippi River to her new home.
She was moored at River Front Park, and started entertaining the public with plays in the summertime.
In 1975, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began a major flood control project and the showboat took a 5-year vacation. In 1980, She make her 2nd Clinton Debut after she had been placed on top of the dike, away from the rageing floods. She was rechristened "City of Clinton" The theatre aboard the boat was given the name of Clinton born Lillian Russell.
The theatre is open from May through August.
