Montrouis is a coastal town in western Haïti. It is also one of the most important beach tourism destinations in Haiti, with several well renowned hotels and resorts, including le Moulin-sur-Mer, an authentic sugar plantation.
After the big earthquake of January 2010 which devastated much of Port-au-Prince, the tourist industry was not entirely affected as humanitarian tourism maintained a degree of dynamism. However, although humanitarian tourism may have offset the decline in inbound tourism flows in 2010, in 2011, arrivals fell by 25%. Haiti’s hopes for economic recovery are focused on the travel and tourism industry. (
