A ghost sign for what I believe to be an old coaching Inn, on the north side of Bala. The Inn was located in nearby Llanycil, a half mile south of Bala.

A ghost sign for what I believe to be an old coaching Inn, on the north side of Bala. The Inn was located in nearby Llanycil, a half mile south of Bala. The sign is painted onto red brick and is partially obscured by a modern sign for the cafe that is now located in the shop below.
The sign has written on it:-
"Bull Bach
C"
Some information about a nearby Inn called 'Bull Bach' can be seen on an old census here - (

The phrase 'Bull Bach' is an amalgam of two languages, Bull - being English, and Bach - being Welsh for small.
So if the name was to be entirely Welsh, it should be called "Tarw Bach". Odd for such a heavy Welsh language area as Bala, perhaps it was designed to appeal to tourists from England as well.
