New Norcia is a very small town to the north east of Perth, and the monastery is the primary reason for the town's existence. It's Australia's only monastic town.

The monastery was established in the 1840s and is still active. Today anyone is welcome to join the monks at prayer, and also mass is held at the church Monday to Saturday at 7:30am and Sundays at 9am.

The public can visit the Abbey Church, which houses one of only two large Moser organs crafted in Germany and imported to Australia in the 1920s. The Abbey Church also contains the tomb of Rosendo Salvado, the founder of New Norcia. (http://www.newnorcia.wa.edu.au/visit-new-norcia/self-guided-tours.html)

The monks of New Norcia support themselves by baking amazing bread and selling it all over Western Australia.
