In 1910, the Bend Water, Light and Power Company completed a dam across the Deschutes River in Bend creating Mirror Pond. In 1913, the company completed a powerhouse and began generating the first electricity for the community of Bend. The dam is 252 feet long and 14 feet high and a 150-foot concrete gravity wall connects the dam to the brick powerhouse. The powerhouse holds three turbines that have a combined generation capacity of 1,110 kilowatts. The dam and powerhouse have undergone very few changes since their completion and the powerhouse is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Bend. The Bend Water, Light and Power Company sold the dam and powerhouse to Pacific Power and Light Company which is now part of PacifiCorp.
