The Car, Aarhus Airport, Tirstrup - Satellite Imagery Oddities on Waymarking.com

Århus Lufthavn, Tirstrup, blev oprindelig bygget af Luftwaffe i slutningenn af 2. verdenskrig. Som civil lufthavn har der lige siden været røre om beliggendenheden et stykke fra Århus. Se selv beretningen om historie på hjemmesiden.
I en periode har området også været brugt som flyvestation, hvor 1 dansk og 2 engelske eskadriller har haft base, hvilket stadig kan ses af de 2 områder mod syd og 1 mod nord med bunkere til jagerflyene. Flyvestationen er i dag nedlagt og det østligste område bruges i dag bla. til opbevaring af fyrværkeri, idet det er det sted i Danmark, som pt. anses som mest sikkert til dette formål.
For at gøre placeringen "langt" fra Århus mere spiselig blev der efter flyvestationens endelige nedlæggelse opført "Ny Lufthavnsvej", som skulle gøre vejen til lufthavnen kortere/hurtigere. Og netop denne vej har nu gjort, at ser man nu på hele lufthavnen på luft/satellitfoto, ligner den faktisk en bil, med eskadrilleområderne mod syd som hjul, P-området ved lufthavnsbygningen som forrude og Ny Lufthavnsvej som karosseri.



Aarhus Airport, Tirstrup, was originally build by the german Luftwaffe during the last years of WW2. The use as a civilian airport, has been discussed ever since due to the distance to Aarhus. See the page about the history on the wepsite.
For some years the area was used by the danish airforce as an airbase, hosting 1 danish(Draken/F16) and 2 british squadrons(Tornado), wich can be seen by the 2 areas south and 1 area north of the landing strip with bunkers for the fighter planes. Today the airbase is closed and the most eastern of the 2 areas is used for storing fireworks, as it is the place in Denmark considered the safest for this purpose.
To make the distance to Aarhus more "edible", Ny Lufthavnsvej was build, when the airbase was finally closed, as this should make the route from Aarhus to the airport terminal shorter/faster.
And this new road has also caused, that looking at the whole airport on a satelite/airphoto, it now looks as a car, with the southern squadron areas making the wheels, the parking area at the terminal making the windscreen and Ny Lufthavnsvej making the body.
