Solna Bana village (today called Solivar, part of Presov town) is evidenced by the year 1230. The salt was originally produced by evaporation of saline solution - brine. Since the year 1572 began the underground mining of rock salt in the shaft Leopold. In 1752 brine flooded the main shaft and rock salt mining was finished, however, continued extraction of brine. In the 20th 20th century salt production transferred to new saltworks nearby. In 1970 the area was declared a national monument. It is now administered by the Slovak Technical Museum in Košice.
