The erection of the Duomo di Orvieto was begun 1290 on the basalt tuff hill (old vulcano) of Orvieto. It took about 300 years to complete the cathedral.
Today the cathedral has the status of an Italian National Monument.
It was build in gothic style and has a lot of fine and very detailed stonemasonry, especially on the front and inside.
The sidewalls of the cathedral are more simple, not that rich decorated.
There is a very good and detailed description at Wikipedia: (
