This brilliant white Lutheran church with contrasting black accents is located in East Trail at the corner of McLean Street and Second Avenue.

The community of East Trail began with the completion of a bridge across the Columbia River in 1912, replacing the ferry that had run sporadically since 1895. The community expanded rapidly after that time.

Built in 1971 in a somewhat art deco style, I believe that this is the second Lutheran church built on the east side of the river, replacing an older one that eventually became too small for the congregation. They were both built across the river from downtown Trail because, by the time a Lutheran Church was built, there was no acceptable land left in Trail on which to build a church.

There is a dated marble plaque by the entrance inscribed: "PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH 1971". The side of the church bears a large black and white mural depicting the birth of Christ.
