For the railway Arnstadt - Saalfeld, it was necessary to bridge the valley of the Ilm. The resulting viadukt is 202m long and 7m wide. Scheduled time of the first train ran on June 18, 1894 over the bridge. The only route that goes over the viadukt is still the regional connection between the ICE train stations Erfurt and Saalfeld/ Saale.
