Perched high above the Atlantic Ocean on one of the most easterly points of land in North America, this series of plaques and information boards mark the site where Guglielmo Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal on December 12, 1901. Marconi was assisted by George Kemp. They were stationed in one of three hospitals that were on the site between 1870 and 1920.

According to one plaque, the two confirmed the signal with a telephone receiver and wire antenna that was kept aloft by a kite. They heard Morse Code for the letter "S" transmitted from Poldhu, Cornwall, UK. Their experiment showed that radio signals extended far beyond the horizon, giving radio a new global dimension for communication in the 20th Century.
