The Alexandra Bridge Piers are Category I structures on the Historic Places Trust Register. The piers were built circa 1882 as supports for a suspension bridge along a key transportation route into Alexandra. The piers were constructed of locally quarried stone. The engineer for the bridge was Leslie Duncan McGeorge. The bridge was in use for more than 70 years until it was replaced by a new highway bridge in 1958. At the time the decking and cables were removed from the bridge leaving the monumental piers and towers.
