The Zwehrenturm is a medieval city gate and one of the few remainders of the old Kassel city walls. Originally, the tower had a pyramid-shaped roof and there were bells. When the tower was conjoined with the adjacent Museum Fridericianum in 1779, the bells were removed and installed in the then newly built Garnisonkirche. Today, the top floor is the site of the Laserscape Kassel laserbeam installation, while the rest of the building is integrated into the Documenta exhibition rooms.

Der Zwehrenturm ist ein mittelalterliches Stadttor und gehört zu den wenigen erhaltenen Resten der alten Kasseler Stadtbefestigung. Ursprünglich hatte der Turm ein pyramidenförmiges Spitzdach und besaß Glocken. Als der Turm 1779 mit dem angrenzenden Museum Fridericianum verbunden wurde, wurden die Glocken entfernt und in der damals neu erbauten Garnisonkirche installiert. Heute befindet sich im Obergeschoss die Laserscape Kassel Laserstrahlinstallation, während der Rest des Gebäudes als Documenta-Ausstellungsfläche genutzt wird.
