Nesamovyte Lake, located on the north-eastern slopes of the Turkul mountain, is from geological point of view interesting because of its origin. It’s type of glacial lake called tarn (British English) or commonly known as cirque lake (American English) formed at the head of a valley glacier. It means, that lake is situated in an amphitheatre-like large circular depression at the valley head called cirque (French word for "arena") or corrie (Scottish Gaelic word for pot or cauldron). These cirques are formed, when at this place formed glacier moving down and by its weight (heavy pressed glacial snow and ice) shaping underlying rock (or in other words by glacier caused erosion). Later formation of the lake also helps creation of moraine consisting of rocks, boulders and soil pushed by moving glacier ahead. When a corrie no longer holds a glacier, it’s possible to see how the glacier ice has shaped rock and formed moraine-dam. Over time this fills with water forming a small lake, such as Nesamovyte one.

Name of lake - Nesamovyte - means something like „Incredible lake”. The banks are covered with stunted trees and subalpine herbs. On the southern side the bottom is covered with large flat boulders and on the north it’s covered with soil (and surrounded by swamp). Lake depth throughout the area ranges from 1-1,5 m. New water comes to the lake from snow, rain and spring located in the nearby slope. Nesamovyte lake is also storied by Hutsuls (ethno-cultural group of Carpathian slopes in Romanian-Ukrainian border) legends. They believe that disturbing the water of Nesamovyte lake could bring thunderstorm and hail. The other legend says that if someone washes his face in this lake will find true love and get married.
