This tower was most probably part of a network of look-out towers designed to protect the town from attacks from East. We can't forget this is almost border land, and the safety it was felt in other parts of the country was not a privilege of these communities.
It's a fact that Moura is surrounded by smaller look-out towers, and this one, being located in the castle, was probably the final destination for all messages coming from the surrounding stations.
The tower was recently renovated and painted in an attractive dark yellow. Be careful up there, it's not very safe, keep an eye on children.
