The courthouse is listed as a Category I building on the Heritage Trust register and was built beginning in 1875 and completed in 1876. The building was designed by Invercargill architect F.W. Burwell. The building was constructed of local schist stone with a corrugated metal roof. The building features arched windows and entrances. The courts have relocated to a building around the corner. The building was converted to a restaurant in 2006.
