The house, as described on the web site, is a Victorian mansion built in 1868. The house became a Ronald McDonald House on September 7, 1979. It has nine bedrooms, plus a kitchen, living room, and outdoor play area. The carriage house was converted in 1985 to a Transplant Recovery Center, the first of its type in the country. This facility has seven bedrooms and is designed for patients who had bone marrow or stem cell transplants. In 1994, an addition to the main house was made to meet the needs for more transplant recovery units, adding seven units.
