The fern has become an unofficial symbol for New Zealand. Many of the national sports teams including the All Blacks rugby team and the Silver Ferns net ball team use silver fern motif in their insignia. The fern frond sculpture is of bronze and mounted on a concrete base and measures 2.6 meters.
