This lighthouse stands on the southern slope of Fort Canning Park, a hill ~2kms to the north west of the mouth of the Singapore River. It is not in use, but is well maintained, and is one of the tourist sites on the hill.
According to the multi-lingual information sign (in gallery) adjacent to the lighthouse its glory days were in the 19th century, when the lighthouse guided ships to port on the long journey from England, and the other colonies (perhaps even the rebellious colonies). In those long ago days there were no trees obscuring the lighthouse from the city, nor was the city filled with skycrapers.
