The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 67 has erected a memorial in a small park on along Route 12 in Thompson, CT. The memorial is composed of three distinctive monuments that are joined together to form the memorial. The central portion is a highly polished black granite slab with a quote from Thomas Paine on the front. It is flanked by two smaller gray granite tablets.
The gray granite tablet on the left front of the monument is inscribed:
THE
PERSIAN GULF
followed by a map showing Iraq, Kuwait, Iran, Saudi Arabia surrounding the Persian Gulf.
The polished black granite section in the middle has the laser etched image of a male soldier, female soldier and male aviator. Below is the inscription:
WE FIGHT NOT TO ENSLAVE
BUR TO SET A COUNTRY FREE,
AND TO MAKE ROOM UPON THE
EARTH FOR HONEST MEN TO LIVE IN
