Experimental archaeology reconstruction (replica) of neolithic cottage is located at UNESCO world heritage site of Çatalhöyük near city of Çumra.

"Experimental archaeology at Çatalhöyük begun in 1997 and continued in 1998 with preparations for a reconstruction of a Neolithic house. The preparations included manufacturing the bricks for the house, collecting the necessary other materials for construction, such as mortar and materials for the roof, and groundwork on the building site. In 1999 season we begun the building of the house.

(...)

In 1999 we began the construction of the house replica. It is located immediately south from the Museum building at Çatalhöyük. The house is close to the main entrance to the site and conveniently located for the future visitors of the site.

(...)

The house is rectangular in shape, dimensions are 4.5 m x 8 m (see Fig 58), and it is oriented North-South. The wall thickness is 0.30 m and the final wall height will be 2.30 m, based on the evidence from the site. The shape, size and interior division of space are based on the excavated Neolithic houses at Çatalhöyük. However, the house replica is not a copy of any specific house from the site, it is rather incorporating the elements from several different houses.

One major difference between the Neolithic houses excavated so far and the experimental house is that the latter has a regular door. All the reconstructions of Çatalhöyük houses have included only a roof opening as house entrance. The experimental house will also have the roof entrance but in addition we are including the standard door . We believe that for the majority of the future visitors to the experimental house we have to provide a standard door. We will inform the visitors about our reasons for including the standard door despite the existing evidence to the contrary. We shall also build a small size door and include a screen, which will make it invisible from the house interior."
