Das Original der Kreuzigungsgruppe von 1509 des Bildhauers Hans Backoffen ist aus Sandstein. Es befindet sich seit 1915 in der Turmhalle des Doms. Die Figurengruppe wurde von Jakob Heller und seiner Ehefrau Katharina von Molheim gestiftet.
In der Mitte hängt Jesus Christus am Kreuz, umgeben von zwei gekreuzigten Verbrechern. Unter den vier Trauernden befindet sich die Gottesmutter Maria in großem Schmerz. Links neben dem Kreuz hebt die festlich gekleidete Maria Magdalena die gefalteten Hände nach oben. Rechts vom Kreuz steht der römische Hauptmann Longinus und zeigt mit seiner rechten Hand zu Jesus. Rechts außen steht der Lieblingsjünger Johannes und schaut bewegt nach oben zum Kreuz.
Auf dem originalen altarähnlichen Sockel ist 1917/19 eine Kopie aus grauem Muschelkalk entstanden. Sie steht vor der Ostseite des nördlichen Querschiffes, auf dem ehemaligen Domfriedhof.

The original of the Crucifixion from 1509 by the sculptor Hans Backoffen is made of sandstone. It is located since 1915 in the tower-hall of the cathedral. The figure group was founded by Jakob Heller and his wife Katharina von Molheim.
In the middle is Jesus Christ hanging on the cross, surrounded by two crucified criminals. Among the four mourners, the Virgin Mary is in great pain. To left of the cross stands the festively dressed Mary Magdalene clasped hands upward. Right of the cross is the Roman centurion Longinus, pointing with his right hand to Jesus. Right outside is the beloved disciple John, emotionally looking up the cross.
On the original altar-like base stands the copy from 1917/19 made of gray limestone. It stands in front of the east side of the north transept, on the former Cathedrals Cemetery.
