The river Ergolz is the border between Aargau and Basel-Landschaft. The two municipalities Augst and Kaiseraugst were an entity until 1442 when the area west of the river came to Basel and the east part to Austria. Also the area north of the Rhine was Austrian at this time. In the Napoleonic era Austia lost its Western exclaves. The areas south of the Rhine became Swiss in 1802 as a port of the newly founded canton Aargau. The Austrian territories north of the Rhine were assigned to the Grand Duchy of Baden, that is now a part of the German state Baden-Württemberg.

There is no marker or any other sign at the site. The situation is clear enough without. The buoy visible on the pictures is a navigation marker for commercial ships and clearly inside the Swiss territory.

The waymark coordinates are at the end of the boat landing of Augst. The pictures were made there and on the bridge to Kaiseraugst. The Kaiseraugst are would be closer to the exact point, but is private property and only accessible to the public during winter.
