Big runestone of Jelling Denmark (N55 45'21" E9 25'10") probably the most famous Danish stones, also Unesco World Heritage. The original was raised by Herald Bluetooth in the 10th century celebrating his conquest and conversion to Christianity. The text on the stone reads:
'King Haraldr ordered this monument made in memory of Gormr, his father, and in memory of Thyrvé, his mother; that Haraldr who won for himself all of Denmark and Norway and made the Danes Christian.'
There is a brass translation on the wall of the 'Pandhof' of the nearby 'Domkerk' cathedral. Nearby also the highest church tower in the Netherlands (112m) and the 'Academiegebouw' of the University. The square is also the place of the former Roman Castellum Traiectum.
