The forest in the vicinity of Green Gables, now a protected historic site, has many of the original plants and animals that existed on the island prior to the settlers arriving. With the arrival of people from Europe, much of the forested land on Prince Edward Island was completely deforested.
This information sign depicts a few of the species that may be seen on the trail and have occupied this area for hundreds of years. The plants and animlas include several species that can be or were harvested by the early settlers and First Nations people.
