Two lions flank the entrance to the Biblioteca Hidalgo in Mazatlan's historic center.

"La Plazuela Hidalgo or commonly called the Plazuela de los Leones, is the second oldest in the city and it was established the first formal market, was so named because in its center was a statue of Miguel Hidalgo, the father of the Patria, however this was only until 1899, having been replaced by a kiosk in the center of the square and then rose a building that provides shelter to two libraries, the Biblioteca Benjamin Franklin, and the Municipal Library in main entrance there are two figures of lions golden stone, which are the main reason that the people you have given to this square its present name.
