This sculpture is located in a remote area of the province of Phrae, in northern Thailand. The piece consists of three figures, all in period Thai attire, two women flanking one man. The people concerned have arrows projecting from their bodies. The life-sized, bronze figures stand on a plinth, on a dais. The sculpture is also a shrine. There is a prayer area in front of the statues.

The three statues represent three characters in a historical play. The play dates to the early Ayutthaya period of Thai history (~14th century CE). I could find little English language information about the play, though it seems to have a small measure of popularity in Thailand. There is a translation of a description of the importance of the three figures at the site (in gallery), but, to be frank, the translation is not that helpful.

In essence, the play involves love, hatred (amazing how often the two are found together), betrayal, death, murder, money, and more love. Putting two and two together I infer that the story centres around one man and two women, and a choice.
