A plaque between and below the ground floor windows shows that this inn was built in 1901. It was built to replace The Black Bull which was in a very dangerous condition 'with cracked and bulging walls'. The teetotal movement was very strong in Alston about that time and The Vic was a temperance hotel. It isn't today as it advertises Newcastle Breweries products as part of its free house status. The restaurant is a Tandoori eat-in and take-away called Victoria Spice.
The Inn is of four bays width and two storeys, the second occupying the attic space, rendered and with a slate roof. The left bay is the cart entrance to the yard at the rear.
