On a recent trip to Boston, my wife and I took a tour of The Old North Church. We learned from our tour guide that this famous church, (where the "one if by land, two if by sea" lanterns were hung), offically known as Christ Church, was used as a field hospital during the American Revolutionary War's Battle of Bunker Hill. The Battle took place on June 17, 1775 a short distance away, across the Charles River. The church wasn't used for several years during the war, and all of the box pews made good makeshift hospital rooms. Injured colonial soldiers were taken to the church where care could be administered.
