Instantly recogniseable as the exterior of the Parochial House in the iconic television series Father Ted, the house and its grounds have been used in every episode of the series except for Flight into Terror (series 2, episode 10), where the house is only seen in the opening title sequence. There are 25 episodes in total.

Father Ted is a multi award winning comedy series where the surreal is the norm. Set on the remote fictional Craggy Island off Ireland's west coast, the show features the eponymous Father Ted Crilly, alongside fellow priests the thick witted Father Dougal McGuire and Father Jack Hackett, who is depicted rather the worse for wear after years of alcohol abuse. Exiled on the island for various past incidents, the priests live together in the parochial house with their housekeeper Mrs. Doyle.

The image is taken from the episode "Cigarettes and Alcohol and Rollerblading" (series 2, episode 8), where the priests attempt to give up their worst vices for lent: Ted his smoking, Jack his drinking (Ted hiding his drink in a cave beneath the Cliffs of Moher), and Dougal his rollerblading. They all find this incredibly difficult and Ted calls a church run addiction service which sends Sister Asumpta to help them. She puts the priests on a regimen of strict diet discipline and punishments. The scene pictures Ted being given one of his "daily punishments", a chinese burn (which had no effect on Father Dougal, pictured behind).

The series, filmed in the late 1990s now has cult status and is regularly repeated on Channel 4 in the UK and RTÉ in Ireland and indeed in many nations all around the world. Originally made by Hat Trick Productions for the British Channel 4 network, the series features a mostly Irish cast and all external scenes were filmed in Ireland. There is now an annual festival (Ted Fest) held to celebrate the series.

While the outside of the property remains virtually identical from the years when it was used as a location (except for statue of the Virgin Mary which no longer resides outside the gate), the interior of the house bares little resemblance to that of the show, which was recorded in front of a live studio audience in London.

Giving it's real name, Glanquin House is situated on a narow single track lane which is the Boston road from Kilnaboy. The current occupiers are very used to people stopping and taking pictures of their property (quite possibly the most recognised house in Ireland) and indeed you may well not be on your own when you visit! You can now even have "a nice cup of tea" with them in their kitchen - but be aware this is by prior appointment only.

In order to log your find, take a picture of yourself outside the gates with the house in the background. Maybe you'd like to take a picture of yourself acting one of the scenes in the series... if you do a Google search you'll find you won't be the first to do this by any means! Ah, go on, go on, go on!
