A civil war peace monument dedicated to the fallen sailors and solders of Leeds, Maine. The granite obelisk is located on the top of Monument Hill and has the inscription "PEACE WAS SURE 1865".

The Peace Monument is located on the top of Monument Hill in Leeds, Maine. It is dedicated to the fallen Civil War solders and sailors of Leeds, Maine. The monument is a granite obelisk, ~30 feet tall, with the inscription "PEACE WAS SURE 1865". It was erected in November of 1895.
There is a plaque on each side of the monument. These plaques say:
"Peace Monument To The Sailors Of Leeds. Died In Service."
"Peace Monument Erected By Gen. O. O. Howard & Gen. C. H. Howard On Lot Presented By I. T. Boothby & D. F. Lothrop."
"Peace Monument To The Solders Of Leeds. Died In Service."
"Peace Monument Suggested By Rev. R. B. Howard U. S. Christian Commission."
Access to this monument is from North Road were you will find the Monument Hill Trail sign at the trailhead.
