This millstone was brought to the area when the Doukhobors migrated to BC to symbolize their move. It was initially used in Saskatchewan. The platform that it sits on, much the worse for wear, was its original resting place, containing all the drive gear necessary to power it. It's difficult to say how it was originally powered as it has a flat-belt drive and could have been modified for a different power source after its arrival in BC. Wind or a small steam or gasoline/kerosene engine were the most likely power sources. It was used by the Doukhobor communes to grind their grain to make flour.
