"Via Raetia (auch Via Raetica) ist die neuzeitliche Bezeichnung für eine der wenigen Römerstraßen, die den süddeutschen Raum, damals die Provinz Raetia, mit Norditalien verband. Sie führte über den Brennerpass, das heutige Innsbruck, den Seefelder Sattel und Partenkirchen nach Augsburg und löste die Via Claudia Augusta als wichtigste Straßenverbindung über die Ostalpen ab. Ihr Ausbau begründete den Aufstieg des Brenners zum bis heute meistgenutzten Übergang der Ostalpen. Die Strecke ist in der Tabula Peutingeriana verzeichnet.
Kaiser Septimius Severus ließ im 2. Jahrhundert n. Chr. die bestehenden Saumpfade durch Brückenbauten und Wasserregulierungen zur befestigten Straße ausbauen und verkürzte so die Verbindung von Verona nach Augsburg von über 500 auf ca. 430 km, was zwei bis drei Tagesreisen weniger entsprach. Die Straße machte den Brenner zu einem wichtigen Alpenübergang und bildete die Grundlage für die mittelalterliche, nach Norden verlängerte Reichsstraße Via Imperii.

"Via Raetia is (Via Raetica also) the modern name for one of the few Roman roads, and the South of Germany, then the province Raetia, with northern Italy. They led through the Brenner Pass, the current Innsbruck, Seefeld saddle and Partenkirchen to Augsburg solved the via Claudia Augusta from as important road over the eastern Alps. Their expansion justified the rise of the torch to today most used transition in the eastern Alps. the track is recorded in the Peutinger.
Emperor Septimius Severus was the 2nd Century AD to expand the existing bridle paths through bridges and water regulations to paved road and shortened so the connection from Verona to Augsburg from about 500 to 430 km, which corresponds to two to three days less. The road turned the torch into an important crossing of the Alps, and formed the basis of the medieval kingdom extended northwards Via Imperil.
