Re’em is the name given the animal in the Bible that is described with details that pinpoint it as a unicorn. Unicorns are mentioned 9 times in the Bible (Isaiah 34:7, Psalms 22:21, 29:6, 92:10, Numbers 23:22, Deuteronomy 33:17, Job 39:9-10). The unicorns in the Bible are discribed as being about the size of a Oryx or llama, with a single, destinctive twisted horn, and the color of snow.
In Jewish folklore, the Re’em is larger than most other examples of unicorns, where Jewish tall-tales tell of unicorns so large, Noah had to strap it on the side of the Ark. In other Jewish folklore or tall tales, King David happened upon a unicorn’s horn while traveling and mistook it for a mountain, the unicorn was so large! The unicorn jumped up which surprised King David, who cried out to God to intervene, and a large lion appeared in front of the unicorn. The unicorn bowed to the King of Beasts, and while its head was lowered, King David walked off the horn, where he suddenly realized he would be facing the lion! Kind David prayed to God again, and another animal passed by, took the attention of the lion, who chased it, and King David was able to leave, unharmed.

This Unicorn is proudly displayed by the government of Nova Scotia on their massive government building at One Government Place, Halifax, Nova Scotia (along with a lion). Please note, the government officials inside this building can be a bit nervous about individuals lerking about the outside of the building, so you may want to take photographs from across the street.
