This welcome sign is a monument to the hunting grounds of Mértola. That's what it says there: "Mértola, capital town of hunting".

It stands by the East access to the town, near a roundabout and close to the bridge which crosses the Guadiana river.

The bronze sculptures of the animals places around the sign represent the kind of species which can be hunt in the region.
