In 1897, Alphonse Pelzer created a life-sized statue of Abraham Lincoln. Later, in 1915, Idaho acquired a copy and placed it at the Idaho Soldier's Home in Boise. The statue was moved to the new Idaho Veterans Home in the 1970s before being relocated to it's current place in front of the state Capitol building in 2009. This is said to be the oldest Abraham Lincoln statue found in the western United States. The pedestal features a plaque containing the words of the Gettysburg Address. An engraving on the pedestal features the last paragraph of Lincoln's second inaugural address.
