Sequoiadendron giganteum (Sekvojovec obrovský) - Chabáne, Czech Republic - Sequoioideae Trees on Waymarking.com

The Sequoioideae Tree - Sequoiadendron giganteum - located near the settlement of Chabane (East Moravia - Zlín region) is probably oldest living Sequoioideae Tree in the Czech republic. According to an information panel near the tree, tt was planted together with other two ones 170 years ago by count Friedrich Carl Eugen Vsemir von Berchtold, Bohemian physician and botanist from Austrian descent. While the other two trees died during the times, the third one survived. Unfortunately in 1972 it was struck by lightning and its upper part was broken. The damged part was cemented and the tree survived. Since that time a new, 8 meters high top has grown up. Now its height is more then 26 meters and its trunk has a circumference more than 6 meters.
