This hydroelectric power station became operational in the early twentieth century, but it is completely abandoned nowadays.
The energy produced was used in the textile factory "Fiação e Tecidos", that worked a few hundred meters downstream of the river.
The grounds nowadays belongs to the Municipality of Alcobaça, and at least since 2008, there are plans to build a campsite and a cycleway in the area near the central.
Until today nothing has been done, and with the country plunged into a severe economic crisis, it certainly will not happen in the upcoming years.
