This house is today the Museu Municipal de Olhão, the city museum, ran by the municipality, which was created in 2001. But long before that the house hosted the Compromisso Marítimo de Olhão. A "Compromisso Marítimo" was a scheme with functions equivalent to an insurance company and social security quite common in old fishing communities, as it was the case of Olhão. A pharmacy was available in a side room of the building.
