The park itself runs along North Hull Street between Randolph Street and Columbus Street. It is about 3 acres in size and is also the location of a large playground called Discovery Village. The sign at the north entrance needs some maintenance but the park itself is in excellent condition.

In some ways, the monument is the park itself. Kiwanis came to Montgomery in 1919, and this would have been one of their early projects. It was an older area of town in 1923, so one might speculate that the creation of the park was an effort to help a disadvantaged neighborhood. Unfortunately, I have not found any information with details about the creation of the park other than the quotation that follows.

The following description of Kiwanis Park comes from page 8 of "Old Alabama Town: An Illustrated Guide" by Mary Ann Neeley (ISBN 0-8173-1179-3):

"Early settler Charles Crommelin built his house on this site in the mid-nineteenth century, and in 1923 his descendants donated the property to the city for a park that the Kiwanis Club originally sponsored.

Covering more than half a city block, Kiwanis Park is an integral part of Old Alabama Town. Maintained by the city of Montgomery's Department of Parks and Recreation, it is the site of fun and exciting programs including "Story Iales" and the popular "Sounds of Summer" concerts. Throughout the year students picnic and play and visitors enjoy strolling under the trees."
